which two numbers make 10:
Over the last few weeks we have been learning to add numbers together using a range of strategies, including counting with our fingers and objects, drawing pictures, and using our knowledge of doubles. This week we explored numbers that are 'Friends of 10' to help us with quick and immediate recall of addition facts to 10. Using hand cutouts to explore different combinations of 10 by folding fingers down and counting how many were left upright: Using the colours of the rainbow to help us identify which two numbers make 10: Consolidating our knowledge by making little Friends of 10!:

In celebration of Mother's Day, this week we shared many stories about our mums during News time, drew portraits, shopped at the Mother's Day Stall and of course made Mother's Day cards! It was really sweet getting to know the special things everyone loves about their mums, especially all the yummy food mums make and the number of kisses and cuddles per day! Happy Mother's Day to all our mums!
To commemorate the Anzac Day centenary, SRC members held a special assembly for our school, parents and community members. It was an emotive and reflective service to remember and recognise the loss, heroism, sacrifice and contributions made by many soldiers during the First World War. Guest speakers shared their personal experiences and service stories, and class representatives laid down commemorative poppy wreaths on behalf of our school. After learning more about the significance of red poppies for war remembrance, K Bravery created some watercolour paintings to further commemorate Anzac Day. Lest We Forget.
This week we read 'Little Red Riding Hood' and talked about what makes a good story. We learnt that stories need a setting, characters, a problem and solution (beginning, middle and end), and used our knowledge of these components to create a story map for 'Little Red Riding Hood'! We are working really hard to learn our alphabet letters and sounds! Every week we do different activities and games to help us practise. Below are just a few of our favourite activities from this week!
It was fun using our knowledge of shapes to make our paper craft mice! This was linked to our study of Hickory Dickory Dock, so was a perfect art activity to sing along to! We hope you like it :)
This week we talked a lot about patterns, particularly how to identify and create repeating patterns with shapes, colours and even our bodies.
We especially liked making and recording our own colour patterns with different materials! Have a look at some of our work below: While we thoroughly enjoyed learning to sing, recite and write about the classic Baa Baa Black Sheep nursery rhyme, we wanted to unleash our creativity with our favourite colours too! We linked our study of Baa Baa Black Sheep with the lovely picture book 'Where is the Green Sheep?' by Mem Fox which we all enjoyed reading, and followed on with a crafty tissue-paper-sheep creation! All Kindergarten students are required to bring in the following school supplies:
In addition, any contributions to our classroom are very welcome!! Such items as stationery, dress-ups, arts & craft materials and toys would all be wonderful for developmental activities, the kids will love and benefit from your generosity! Thank you in advance for your support :) |
